Bronze Age Belt Box

Description: Copper alloy object formerly identified as a belt box and part of a rich Bronze Age hoard.

Dimensions: 8cm height x 16.7cm diameter

Object Period: Bronze Age

Provenance: Aero, Sobygard Mark, Denmark

Museum Accession No.: AN1927.1843

Aquisition History: Found in 1872. Acquired by John Evans and presented to the Ashmolean Museum by Sir Arthur Evans in 1927.

Other Information: Apparently this belt box was sold off separately, and left Denmark after having been offered to, but refused by Nationalmuseet. Eventually the archive may provide information on how Evans acquired it: It is remarkable that he knew the exact find location.
