Anglo-Saxon Cruciform Brooch

Description: One of a pair of early Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooches, so named because of their shape. This brooch has decoration on each of the side lappets in the form of downward-facing birds' heads.

Aquisition History: Found in 1874. Acquired by Sir John Evans and presented to the Ashmolean by Sir Arthur Evans in 1909.
